AquaKids Sharks Swim Team

We are a USA Swimming registered 2022 "Silver Medal" club (as a part of the South Florida Aquatic Club) with Competitive and FUNdamental groups. Year-round instruction and training for beginners to those striving for excellence; arranged according to ability, age, desire & commitment.

Our goal is individual improvement in a team atmosphere. AquaKids Sharks learn, improve, achieve goals, and have FUN!


Our AquaKids Sharks Swim Team Program has been named a "Silver Medal" Club in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 (as a part of the South Florida Aquatic Club) and a "Bronze Medal" Club for 2015, 2017 and 2018 in USA Swimming's Club Excellence Program. We utilize the swimming pool at Westminster Christian School on the high school campus located at 6855 SW 152 Street in Miami, Florida. We offer groups for competitive swimmers to improve their technique and strive for excellence in the sport!

REGISTRATION AND TRYOUTS

AquaKids SHARKS Swim Team registration is completed by scheduling a tryout. Please email us at aksharks.swimteam@gmail.com for an appointment! Register early, we limit the numbers enrolled in each group. Please read the "Basic Terms and Conditions for Participation" and Brochure concerning procedures, fees, dues, and policies before completing and signing the registration form. CONTINUING EDUCATION ("CE") GROUPS

Below each SHARK group is its' scientific name and size (of the shark not the group) along with the general group description.

‍Angel Sharks and Leopard Sharks


Squatina dumerlli 4 feet 100 lbs. & Triakis semifasciata 5 feet 100 lbs.


This group is for swimmers who've taken one session of our regular (daily) lesson program.and desire to further develop their swimming. Swimmers in this group continue to develop their water safety skills which includes "Humpty Dumpty", "Superman Kick", and "Roll Overs".


Then we develop Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke plus introduce Butterfly. They are 30-minute lessons that practice 2 times per week, M/W or T/Th.

‍Sand Sharks


‍Caracharhinus milberti 6 feet 100 lbs.


‍The Sand Sharks are for swimmers who can swim 50 feet of Freestyle with side breathing and 50 feet of Backstroke. This group continues to develop the Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly.


Then introduces Breaststroke plus Racing Starts and Finishes and they compete in our SHARK RACES! They practice for 45 minutes, 2 times per week on M/W or T/Th.

‍Bull Sharks


‍Carcharhinus leucas 10 feet 200 lbs.

FUNdamental & Learn to Practice Pre-Swim Team Group


‍Swimmers in this group are taught to lay the foundations of competitive swimming through stroke development as well as an introduction to competitive swimming. Sharks in this group can expect:


  1. To attend 3 practices out of the 4 offered) per week (M/W/F/Sat or T/TH/F/Sat).
  2. Learn Foundational Skills such as Stroke Technique & Competitive Skills.
  3. Taught lessons in Character Development.
  4. Eligible for participation in AquaKids Sharks Competitive Camp.
  5. Eligible for participation in Shark Races.
  6. Introduction to USA Swimming Competitions (per Coach approval).

TEAM PRACTICE GROUPS

Fall Practices (mid August through around November 1st) are adjusted due to the Florida High School Swimming Season!

‍Blue Sharks


Prionace glauca; grows up to 13 feet & 300 lbs.


Swim Team with FUNdamental & Competitive Levels: FUNdamental group swimmers are competent in Freestyle and Backstroke plus have basic knowledge of Breast & Fly, race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, race in sanctioned competitions. Competitive group swimmers are legal in all four strokes and race in SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 1 hour (or more); 3 to 4 times per week.

Dusky Sharks


Carcharhinus obscurus; grows up to 14 feet & 500 lbs.


Swim Team FUNdamental Group: This is a group for Middle School swimmers who have knowledge of and wish to develop all 4 competitive strokes. Plus, have the desire to improve and possibly become a competitive swimmer. They race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, in sanctioned competitions. 1 to 1.5 hour practices, 2 to 4 times per week.

Hammerhead Sharks


Sphynra mokarran; grows up to 15 feet 800 lbs.


Swim Team FUNdamental Group: This is a group for High School swimmers who have knowledge of and wish to develop all 4 competitive strokes. Plus, have the desire to improve and possibly become a competitive swimmer. They race in SHARK Races and with coaches’ approval, in sanctioned competitions. 1 to 1.5 hour practices; 3 to 5 times per week.

Mako Sharks


Isurus oxyrinchus; grows up to 12 feet 1,000 lbs.


This is a group for our elite “age group” competitive swimmers who have committed to the sport, are competent in all 4 strokes, plus are mentally and physically capable of handling the rigors of training and competitive swimming. Swimmers in this group are striving for personal excellence and the highest levels in swimming. A Swimmer, Parent, Coach Meeting is required for admittance. Swimmers race in SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 2 or more hours; 5-8 times per week.

Great White Sharks


Carchaodon carcharias; grows up to 36 feet 3,000 lbs.


This group is for our elite “senior” competitive swimmers who have committed to the sport, excel in all 4 strokes, and are mentally and physically capable of handling the rigors of training and competitive swimming. Swimmers in this group are striving for personal excellence and the highest levels in swimming and are held to the highest level of personal responsibility. A Swimmer, Parent, Coach Meeting is required for admittance. Swimmers race in limited SHARK Races and sanctioned competitions. Practices are 2 to 5 hours; 9 times per week including 2-a-days.

Basking & Whale Sharks

(Adults/Masters Group)


Cetorhinus maximus & Rhincodon typus; grows up to 45 feet 10,000 lbs.


For adult swimmers who desire to improve their technique and swim for fun and fitness. Requires basic swim skills.


Practices are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 4:45 - 6:30 am or Mondays and Wednesdays; 11:30 am to 1:30!!


Summer hours (during Summer Camp) are MWF, 4:45-6:30 am and 12:00 (noon) to 1:00 pm!

2023-24 Registration Fees & Monthly Dues

Annual Registration Fee: $80 for each swimmer in the family

Seasonal Registration Fee (6/1-8/31): $50 for each swimmer in the family
