Continuing Education ("CE") Program

We currently have very limited availability in select CE groups!

Tryouts are on Mondays at the WCs pool, 5:00-6:00 PM!

Our year-round "CE" program lessons enhance a swimmer's water safety skills plus introduce and develop competitive swimming strokes. These are 30 and 45 minute group lessons that have between 5 and 10 swimmers per coach. They are available after the completion after one of our swim school sessions. These Continuing Education (CE) lesson provide an opportunity for 2 and 1/2 and older swimmers to develop their skills and compeitive swimming strokes until they are qualified to join the AK SHARKS Swim Team. "CE" lessons are twice a week (M/W or T/Th) on a monthly basis at times throughout the day!

Registration requires a try-out to determine the appropriate class level. The exact class days and times is determined at the try-out and placement in a class is dependent on ability and availability.

Below each SHARK is its' scientific name and size (of the shark not the group) along with the general group description.

Angel Sharks

Squatina dumerlli      4 feet       100 lbs.

This group is for swimmers who've taken one session of our regular (daily) lesson program.and desire to further develop their swimming. Swimmers in this group continue to develop their water safety skills which includes "Humpty Dumpty", "Superman Kick", and "Roll Overs". Then we develop Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke plus introduce Butterfly. They are 30 minnute lessons that practice 2 times per week, M/W or T/Th.

Sand Sharks

Caracharhinus milberti      6 feet       100 lbs.

The Sand Sharks are for swimmers who can swim 50 feet of Freestyle with side breathing and 50 feet of Backstroke. This group continues to develop the Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly. Then inroduces Breaststroke plus Racing Starts and Finishes and they compete in our SHARK RACES! They practice for 45 minutes, 2 times per week on M/W or T/Th.

Bull Sharks

Carcharhinus leucas      10 feet     200 lbs.

Swimmers in the Bull Sharks can complete 25 yards (75 feet) of Freestyle with side breathing and 25 yards of Backstroke. They continue to develop all 4 (four) of the competitive strokes, racing skills, plus introduce endurance training and compete in SHARK RACES! The Bull Sharks practice twice a week for 45 minutes on M/W or T/Th.

Registration Fees

Paid by the number of swimmers in the immediate family &

includes a Program Team T-Shirt upon initial enrollment!

Monthly Dues

Continuing Education classes Dues are paid monthly by number of swimmers in the immediate family!

*If payment is received by the 5th of the month (*) there will be a $10 discount on the first swimmer in the family OR a $15 late fee will be added if the account is not paid by the 20th of the month!

Enrollment Procedures & Terms

All Continuing Education (CE) programs require advance registration and a try-out. Classes are available on first come basis. To register attend a try-out, read the BASIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION, then complete and sign the registration form. Bring with payment to a try-out at the WCS pool on a Monday between 5:00 to 6:00 PM. At the conclusion of the try-out the swimmer will be placed in the appropriate group (if available). This will complete the registration and the swimmer may begin at that or or the next class time.

Class Cancellations:

Classes are only cancelled by AquaKids staff and then only for a weather condition or holiday. If the weather looks threatening, please call the WCS pool (NO SOONER THAN 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE LESSON) @ 786-255-0284. If no one answers, please follow the directions on the voicemail. Make-ups are usually scheduled on the Friday of the week that the lesson is cancelled. Make-ups may not be carried over to the next month for any reason! Maximum class size is waived during make-ups.
